Release status

Kindred is free to download and use on Apple silicon and Intel Macs running macOS 14 or later. All sixteen original designs are included, with no ads, accounts, subscriptions, or in-app purchases.

The free Mac App Store release is Waiting for Review, with manual release after approval. A storefront link will be added when the release is available.

Install and update

Download for macOS. Open the disk image and drag Kindred into Applications.

Direct-download updates are currently manual: quit Kindred, download the latest disk image, and replace your copy in Applications. Mac App Store copies receive updates through the store when available. Save editable card copies before switching between installation methods.

Kindred does not include Sparkle or an automatic updater. For installation or update help, email tom@p10q.com.

Edit a card

Choose one of the sixteen original designs in Templates. Use Words for the printed recipient name, headline, note, and signature. The printed name is separate from the delivery email address.

Style changes colors, lettering, headline size, and card shape. Motion changes the animation, intensity, and loop duration. Photo accepts a chosen or dropped image, with zoom and crop controls. Details adds and positions flowers, hearts, butterflies, sparkles, leaves, and moons.

If a text-fit warning appears, shorten that field or choose a taller shape. Exports require the complete text to fit. Wait for a selected photo to finish preparing before exporting.

Keep editable projects

Changes save locally as you work. Open saved projects in My cards, and use Undo or Redo to revisit edits. Save Project As… keeps an editable .kindred copy, including its photo and details; Open Card… opens that copy.

If an imported copy has different contents under an existing card ID, Kindred preserves the saved card and creates a separate editable copy. Keep backup copies of cards you want to retain.

Settings controls the default signature, preview autoplay, and preferred export size. A default signature applies to new cards; existing cards keep their wording.

Export and email

Export card saves a looping GIF, a still PNG image, or a self-contained EML email file with embedded animation and HTML and plain-text wording. The delivery email address is optional, and the subject is separate from the printed headline.

Preview email shows the local email-file layout at phone and desktop widths. Mail apps may display it differently, and some show only the opening animation frame. Opening an EML file may display a message rather than create an editable draft.

After export, Compose in Mail asks macOS sharing to pass the chosen card content to the mail app. Review the recipient and attachment before sending. If your mail app handles the draft differently, insert the saved GIF using its attachment or image controls.

If you change the card or export settings, save the new version before sharing it. Restoring the saved revision and matching export settings restores its sharing actions.

Report a problem

Email tom@p10q.com with the Kindred version, macOS version, steps that led to the issue, and what you expected to happen. For export or email issues, include the file format and the mail app involved.

If you include a screenshot or card file, remove personal wording, photos, and email addresses that are not needed to explain the problem. Read the Kindred privacy policy for details about local storage and sharing.
