Privacy

Kindred is a free greeting-card app for Mac from p10q LLC. This policy describes its local editing, storage, preview, and sharing features for direct-download and Mac App Store builds.

Updated October 7, 2026

What stays on your Mac

Kindred saves editable projects locally, including the card title, recipient name, headline, message, signature, optional delivery email address and subject, chosen photo, and design settings. Imported photos are processed on your Mac and embedded in the project. Kindred does not upload them or require access to your entire photo library.

Preferences stay on the Mac too: favorite templates, default signature, automatic preview playback, preferred export size, and whether the welcome has been shown.

The direct installer and Mac App Store build use the same app bundle identifier and macOS sandbox. Projects and preferences remain local to the app's container.

Kindred has no accounts, publisher server, analytics, advertising, tracking, or telemetry. It does not collect app data or send your cards, photos, or preferences to p10q. Editing, rendering, previews, and project storage work offline.

Local email preview

The email preview uses local WebKit content with embedded card imagery. It does not fetch a remote card, add tracking pixels, or permit external page navigation. It uses a nonpersistent WebKit data store and disables page JavaScript.

The app does not use the preview to upload your content or contact a publisher service.

Exports and editable copies

You choose where to save exported files. A GIF or PNG contains the visible card wording, recipient name, and photo. An EML email file also includes the optional delivery address, subject, HTML and plain-text wording, and embedded animation. An editable .kindred copy contains the project details and embedded photo.

Email files do not add tracking pixels or delivery analytics. Anyone receiving an export can access the information it contains. Local project files and encoded photos are not encrypted by Kindred.

If you save to a synced folder or use a backup service, that service may copy the files under its own settings and privacy policy. Kindred does not provide cloud synchronization.

Compose in Mail

When you choose Compose in Mail, Kindred asks the macOS NSSharingService to pass your chosen card image, message, subject, and entered recipient address to the mail app. Kindred does not run an email account, SMTP service, or delivery server, and does not send email itself.

The mail app and email provider handle the message, attachment, transmission, and storage under their own privacy policies. Review the recipient and attachment before sending. The mail app controls how the draft appears; opening an EML file may display a message rather than create an editable draft.

Preparing Mail content creates a private temporary image copy on the Mac. Kindred removes its owned copy after preparation is cancelled or fails, or after the sharing-service handoff completes or fails. Recognized abandoned copies older than 24 hours are cleaned up when Mail preparation is initialized. The original export is kept; mail apps and recipients may retain their own copies.

Managing saved information

You can delete a project from My cards, remove a photo from a card, and unfavorite a template. Deleting a project removes its saved library file, but does not delete the original photo, exports, backups, temporary attachments, or copies held by a mail app or recipient.

Removing the app alone does not guarantee removal of saved projects or preferences. There is no p10q account or online card collection to delete.

Support and downloads

If you email support, p10q receives your message and any information you choose to include. Contacting support is optional and separate from the app's local features. Please include only information needed to explain the issue.

Kindred is free to download and use, with all sixteen designs included and no ads, accounts, subscriptions, or in-app purchases. Direct downloads are hosted by GitHub, whose download service has its own privacy practices.

The free Mac App Store release is Waiting for Review, with manual release after approval. Apple provides store download and update services under its own policies.

Updates currently use a manual download or the Mac App Store when available. Kindred has no Sparkle updater, automatic update checks, payment processing, or subscription service.
